When we brought our baby home from the hospital in the middle of winter, we discovered she didn't fit in any of the jackets we had for her. So we bundled her in multiple blankets and stuffed her (lovingly) in the car seat with only her head peaking out. In the days (and sleepless nights) to follow, I scoured the Internet for a jacket that would keep her warm, fit comfortably and show off our little gift in style. Since I didn't find anything, I pulled out my sewing machine and at 3:00 a.m. our first baby cape was born.
